There is a crisis growing throughout the world. Humanity is failing to pass on the traditional standards which help promote ethical behavior. A world without ethics would likely struggle to remain stable over the long term. Ethics prove the foundation for moral principles and guidelines that have governed human behavior and interactions within a civilized society. Without ethics, there could be no universal standard for right or wrong, just or unjust, fair or unfair. When I asked the question, “What are Ethics?”, most of the people I approached could not define the word.
Education has been tasked with teaching the standards and philosophical writings that have been preserved for humanity. These lessons can be found in classical literature, the work of the Apostles, and throughout the Greek writers of yesteryear. If society ignores the duty to pass the innate sensibilities on to the next generation, will ethics continue to be followed. In fact, with so many unable to answer, do ethics exist in our modern society?
While it's conceivable that a society could function for a time without a formal ethical framework, such a society would likely face significant challenges in maintaining stability, cohesion, and progress over the long term. Ethics provide the moral compass that guides human behavior and decision-making, and their absence could lead to a breakdown of social order and stability.
Today I talk about the headlines, from the Baltimore bridge collapse, to the raid on P Diddy, the coverage may show that society is losing ethical compassion and care.
